Appointment to Provost Marshall, Martin's Brigade

Below is Capt. Ellis' appointment to Provost Marshall, Martin's Brigade in Greenville, N.C., on May 26th, 1863. It is unknown who actually penned the document.  It may be a copy transcribed by Ellis himself for his own records, or B.B. Bower, the 62nd Georgia Regiment's adjutant, or possibly Charles G. Elliott, A.A.A. Gen'l (Acting Assistant Adjutant General).

            I.       Captain W.L.A. Ellis of the 62 Ga Regt. is hereby appointed Provost Marshall of the Brigade and Provost Guard detailed daily will report to him in the town of Greenville.
